Where is all this joy coming from?

You wouldn't know it from the look on her face, but these photos were taken when Lisette was home sick with hand, foot, and mouth disease.

To Market To Market

June is off to a lovely start. While the weather over the past couple of weeks has felt a little more like early March rather than late May this first weekend of June finally felt like summer.  Even the cicadas began their nightly serenade. We ventured to the Farmer's Market first thing on Saturday (as we do every Saturday). While we arrived at 8:15 thinking that surely we would beat the crowds, we were met by great swarms of people, much to our dismay (at having to rush to get the good produce) and pleasure (at knowing so many people are supporting local farmers/food). But among all those people were many of our favorites including the infamous Lion boys and Hugo, which made for some serious boy fun at the market. We enjoyed our breakfast with Amy, Rob, and Mez and also got to catch up with Monika. For our friends back home in RI we took some shots of the market (pretty awesome right!).

Here at the Vendetti-Pelletier house, Friday night is Pizza Night, Sunday morning is Fancy Coffee and Thursday usually ends up being Leftovers or Take Out and now we have added "Local Saturday." To help us celebrate, our dear friends Monika and her daughter "The Lovely Maria" as well as Julietta, Nathan, and 5-week old Isadora came bearing delicious dishes inspired by the market. We had a raw soup which defied description, a yummy beet salad, a ravishing red cabbage slaw, gorgeous green beans, a quinoa salad featuring cauliflower and the first peppers of summer, summer's first corn, and local sausage, squash and potatoes, which were grilled to perfection by the grill master Pelletier. For dessert we threw some peaches on the grill and served them with local strawberries, raspberries and a "moonshine" goat cheese. The dinner was amazing and conversation delightful. Emerson and Lisette greeted our guests in their summer uniforms (i.e. underwear/diaper only). Em stopped playing just long enough to stuff his face full of sausage and corn. Lisette really enjoyed the beets as well as the sausage. And baby Isadora traveled from person to person soaking up the love. We ended the evening promising to make it a new tradition.

Julietta's disgusted look is due to the fact that Kevin said "I'm coming to document the WOMEN cleaning up" prior to taking the above photo.

As if the weekend weren't already close to perfection..... On Sunday Amy, Rob, and Mez came over for fancy coffee and impromptu egg sandwiches and we invited ourselves to join them at the neighborhood pool. The kids had a blast playing, except for Lisette who is apparently too French to allow herself to be splashing about in a pool. Instead she preferred to hang out with her dad, in the shade.

So that is that... a nearly perfect June weekend!
